Backup and Restore
Upfront planning, supervision and testing are the key elements of backup. Good planning saves costs and help to create a genuine, value added and risk reducing solution for a company.
In evaluating different backup options it is crucial to identify the relevant needs of the company and stakeholders, including laws and regulations and the criticality and value of the data. They help to define the best service levels for the company and specify the backup and restore cycle of the environment and the possible extra needs of the critical data.
Once the fundamental definitions have been made, the best solutions and technologies may be selected. Adding later new services/resources is easy, when they can be assigneed a suitable SLA. By using adequate medias and technologies, customer can reach a most flexible and cost effective solution where the backup data may also be used in various other operative tasks, such as version updates, migrations, training, etc.
Any backup solution needs also management and supervision during its lifecycle. When own expertise isn’t up to date or resources not available, MultiCom provides full scale of services from design of new backup architecture to complete turnkey outsourcing.> Read PDF-brochure

Long term Archiving - Wise Decision - Huge Savings
The ugly truth is that files older than 90 days are addressed rarely. Of course, there are many other criteria to analyse the data than the aging factor, e.g. the file type, size, owner, etc. Based on the criteria for each organisation data tiering can be automated and data moved to more suitable and cost efficient storage devices as well as deletion of inaccurate or unnecessary data while the data could be lifecycle management is handled by and an archiving solution.
When implementing MultiCom’s archiving or tiered storage solutions, the storage capacity can be released from the primary/production tier to a more cost efficient location. Archiving in this context means an application level management by moving data for example from the email or SharePoint solution to more cost efficient storage devices. A tiered storage and a long term storage solution means unstructured data transfer to lower cost storage tiers, e.g. tape libraries or dedup and compressed disk solutions.
Based on the experience over decades and with a close co-operation with the leading vendors, MultiCom has implemented a huge amount of email, file and SharePoint archiving solutions to various customers and organizations. Following solutions have been used:
- EMC SourceOne email archiving solutions, Symantec/Veritas Enterprise Vault email/file archiving solutions, EMC DiskXtender file archiving solutions, Commvault SharePoint-/file archiving solutions
- EMC Centera object storage
MultiCom has implemented long term storage solutions for multiple customers using the following technologies:
- Hitachi Content Platform, Hitachi Data Ingestor, Oracle HSM (SAM/QFS, Oracle tape libraries
The backup environment can be utilized for managing all company data, and for different business continuity issues. Since virtualization has become more common, backup solutions for only virtual environments have also emerged and virtual backup can easily be done with the traditional backup solutions. Most of them enable a user friendly work load transfer from platform to another or to public cloud. It is also possible to backup cloud workload and restore it in own virtual environment of another cloud service.
By combining the snapshot function of the disk array with virtual backup, the backup workload is completely offloaded from the production system. Also large entities are thus restorable in a few minutes – no waiting time for data transfer from backup platform to production.
MultiCom has solutions for a company’s virtual platforms, such as VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XEN, Nutanix Acropolis, Red Hat Enterprise, Oracle VM, KVM, Docker, Huawei FusionCompute, Solaris Zones, IBM LPAR/WPAR and OpenStack, as well as public platforms, Amazon (AWS), Google and Microsoft Azure –workload protection.> Read PDF-brochure
Cloud Service is not a backup service. Its data storage is synchronized in different data centres in order to protect the data from loss, for example loss of the physical storage media. The most common cloud service is SaaS (Software as a Service) which, as well as other services, such as IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) and PaaS (Platform as a Service), can usually be used by a web browser.
Because of various problematic situations in cloud services, the backup of these services is crucial. Service providers usually offer at least an Export function, which can be used for loading a personal copy to be saved locally and is highly recommend to be used regularly. Some service providers offer their customers access to an application programming interface so that a third party backup solution can be used.
MultiCom provides backup solution for SaaS services such as Google Apps (Gmail, Drive), Microsoft Office 365 (Exchange, SharePoint) and Salesforce. Backup solutions provided by MultiCom enable backup and restore in virtual environments on IaaS platforms (Microsoft Azure, Amazon).> Read PDF-brochure
